What Your Skincare Really Needs: The GRASS Routine

You may be wondering what is the GRASS routine, do I have to mow it, and why should I be doing it? GRASS is the acronym used to break down each category of skincare products you should use to achieve your best skin results.
GRASS stands for Growth factors, Retinoid, Antioxidants, Serum and Specialty, and SPF. Not only does Dr. Parker recommend this for all of her patients, but it is nationally recommended by plastic surgeons and dermatologists.
Here we will break it down for you so you can use this routine in combination with your medical aesthetics services to achieve your best skin yet!
G-Growth Factors: These are natural proteins that stimulate the production of collagen and elastin in the skin a.k.a great for anti-aging, correcting fine lines and wrinkles, and enhancing skin texture and tone. Dr. Parker recommends SkinMedica TNS Advanced+ Serum for your growth factor skincare.
R-Retinoid: Retinol, retinoid, and tretinoin are all compounds related to vitamin A. Using retinoids will increase cell turnover to renew the skin and reverse signs of photo-aging (sun damage). SkinBetter’s AlphaRet night cream is a great retinol treatment that will enhance your skin without peeling irritation. Don’t forget about the rest of your body! Retinal isn’t just a product for your face but one you can use on the entire body for anti-aging benefits. We recommend Environ vitamin A, C, and E Body Oil which keeps the dermis and epidermis healthy and replenishes vitamin A to prevent and improve signs of aged skin.
A-Antioxidant: Our skin is exposed to free radicals on a daily basis. It is important to protect your skin from these radicals in order to prevent the degradation of skin cells over time. Antioxidants such as vitamins C and E are all effective antioxidants to protect your skin. Dr. Parker recommends Obagi Professional-C Serum or SkinBetter Alto Defense Serum.
S-Serum/Specialty: These are the products and serums that are specific to your aesthetic goals and skin type. These include eye creams and serums, pigmentation correction, acne products, hydration products, etc. We recommend booking a general consultation so you can discuss your perfect skincare plan with Dr. Parker or our esthetician’s Autumn and Andria.
SkinMedica Neck Correct Serum is a great specialty product for the neck and chest area to firm and correct wrinkles
S-Sun Protection: Last but certainly not least, it is extremely important to use a physical-only SPF every day (yes we said every day) to prevent signs of aging, sun damage, and ultimately skin cancer. Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide sit on the surface of the skin to block UVA and UVB rays from damaging the skin. We recommend Elta MD UV Physical or UV Elements for a physical-only sunblock. We have a wide range of medical-grade SPFs to fit your lifestyle and your preference of tint, thickness, on the go, or ease of use.
“One of the three parts of aging is texture changes and discoloration of the skin. The GRASS routine is a simple, clinically proven way to improve and prevent these changes at home.”-Dr. Parker on the GRASS routine
Remember…it all starts with good skin! Protect your “skinvestment” of the services and treatments you receive at Radiance by using skincare that is clinically proven to work with high-quality ingredients. Oh, and don’t forget to GRASS!
