In The Know with Dr. Parker: How To Combat Redness and Treat Rosacea

Rosacea is a chronic, genetic condition. While we can’t cure it, we can control it. With the right skincare and targeted treatments, patients can prevent the long-term consequences of unmanaged chronic rosacea, such as persistent redness, inflammation, visible vessels, and texture changes. Early, consistent care can truly make all the difference for patients who suffer from rosacea.
At Radiance Medical Aesthetics and Wellness Spa in Williston, VT, Dr. Parker focuses on personalized rosacea treatment plans so patients can achieve calmer, healthier-looking skin over time.
Smart Skincare for Rosacea
Our biggest recommendation for patients with rosacea is sticking to a gentle, structured skincare routine to support calmer, healthier skin. We recommend following the GRASS regimen to strengthen the skin barrier, reduce inflammation, and prevent skin cell damage, which can worsen rosacea.
Important note: Dr. Parker advises rosacea patients to use caution when using high-dose tretinoin, as it can cause irritation or trigger flare-ups.
Sunscreen is key: Heat and UV damage can not only cause flare-ups of rosacea but also lead to long-term skin damage. We recommend using a tinted physical-only SPF to help neutralize red undertones, and is made for sensitive skin types.
One of our favorite SPF’s for rosacea: Elta MD UV Skin Recovery All Mineral, Redness Reduction. It blends seamlessly and neutralizes redness with its green tint!
At Radiance Medical Aesthetics, we are also able to prescribe topical medications tailored to your specific type of rosacea. It’s important to see an experienced medical provider to ensure you are using safe and effective products when it comes to rosacea.
Effective Treatments for Rosacea
At Radiance, we have options that help reduce the symptoms of rosacea, such as redness, inflammation, and progressive skin changes:
- Laser Genesis
No downtime and no pain option, calms flushing, improves skin tone, and induces collagen stimulation for healthier skin function. Series of 6 treatments plus maintenance for optimal results. - BBL®Broadband Light
Minimal to no downtime, and a “spicier” but tolerable option. Targets visible redness and broken vessels, helping to restore a clearer, more even complexion and improve long-term rosacea control. Series of 1-3 treatments plus maintenance for optimal results. - Prescription Medications
Depending on the subtype of rosacea, we may recommend topical anti-inflammatories, compounded creams specifically for rosacea, or oral medications. These help control flare-ups, reduce vascular dilation, and decrease inflammatory lesions.
Each treatment plan at Radiance is customized to your skin’s needs, triggers, and severity. Dr. Parker and Esthetician Andria work closely to ensure your home care and in-office treatments support one another for long-term results.
Bottom Line: You Don’t Have To Live with Untreated Rosacea
Rosacea can feel overwhelming, uncomfortable, and uncontrollable, but with the right strategy and the right provider, you can achieve calmer, healthier, and happier skin. Our goal is to help you understand Rosacea and that it needs to be treated differently from other skin conditions. We can help you see meaningful improvements to your rosacea over time, so you may feel empowered and confident in your skin and in life!
