A Lot Of People Ask - What Is The Best Treatment For Leg Veins?

Health and beauty ads are everywhere. What’s true? What’s safe? And who can you believe? Doctor Colleen Parker of Radiance Medical Aesthetics and Wellness Spa in Williston, VT has your answers, backed by science, and clinical evidence. Doctor Parker keeps you in the know.

Another question that I get from patients is about leg veins. Many times the small little tiny veins that we tend to call spider veins on our legs are purely cosmetic. Sometimes it’s from a deeper problem called deep venous insufficiency that requires a surgical intervention. But the rest of the time they’re just cosmetic, superficial. And the best treatment for this is going to be something called sclerotherapy. The only two options is either sclerotherapy or laser vein treatment. Sclerotherapy is the gold standard. So sclerotherapy is using a tiny, tiny little needle the exact same size as an acupuncture needle and accessing those little tiny blood vessels. And we inject a medication that just actually causes irritation of the interior vessel wall. That irritation causes inflammation. The inflammation causes fibrosis of those little vessel walls and seals them shut. It shuts the blood into the deeper circulation, which is the healthier circulation. It’s where it belongs, and it diminishes the appearance of those tiny little spider veins in the skin. It makes us feel more confident. And it’s a safe, effective treatment for those.

At Radiance we are dedicated to doing what is right for the problem and using the right tools! That’s why we use the best treatment for leg veins, sclerotherapy treatment, which is the gold standard for ridding unwanted spider veins on the legs.

What to expect

  • A very fine needle is used to inject the medication into the leg vein.
  • You may feel a slight sting when injected, but no numbing is needed as this is a well-tolerated procedure.
  • You will wear compression stockings for 2 – 3 weeks after your treatment.

After Treatment

  • Once the treatment is completed, you will put on your stockings and be out the door!
  • Full results can be seen after 4 – 6 weeks.
  • Larger veins may need multiple treatments.
  • Once fully healed, you’ll notice clearer and more youthful-looking legs!
