What's the difference between transformative aesthetic treatments and restorative aesthetic treatments? Dr. Colleen Parker explains.
A lot of patients come in and they know there’s something that’s bothering them, but their biggest fear is that they’re going to look different. I always try and reassure them that there is a difference between transformative aesthetic treatments and restorative aesthetic treatments. So transformative is absolutely okay. That’s the patient that comes in and says, I never had a top lip and when I smile, it disappears. You know, that’s transformative. They’re trying to change something or I always had thin lips and I’d like to have fuller lips. Sometimes the patients come in and they’re like, I don’t like what I see in the mirror, but I don’t want to look different. That’s where restorative aesthetic treatments come in. So restorative is about just replacing volume or repairing damage. A great example of replacing volume is we lose bone mass and these supportive fat pads in our face as we age. If I put a little bit of that supportive structure back in the face it provides lift and decreases some of these signs of aging. So the goal of aesthetic treatment isn’t to make you look different than how you look. It’s just you minus a few years. It’s softening the lines of aging. There are very few things that we can control in this life, and this is something that we can do safely and effectively.
