Laser Scar Removal

Some scars earned from triumph and times of resilience may be worth keeping, while others from trauma or injury could have a lasting effect both physically and emotionally. A painful memory or experience becomes a visible scar and, in turn, a daily reminder from which we, more often than not, would like to move forward. Imagine reclaiming your confidence from unwanted marks or scars that may have once seemed permanent. At Radiance Medical Aesthetics and Wellness Spa in Williston, VT, our scar revision treatments, such as Laser Scar Removal, can effectively and safely alter, lighten, and improve the appearance of scars and help you restore confidence in your skin.

Treatment for Scar Tissue

What is a scar?

A scar is the body’s natural way of healing broken, lost, or damaged skin. It’s pretty amazing how our body can mend itself, but the skin typically becomes fibrous tissue and does not look the same as it once did. Scars can differ in appearance regarding size, color, texture, and shape. They may be flat, raised, indented, rough, hard, or smooth.

What is Scar Revision Treatment?

When our body works to repair the skin it produces collagen, but the new tissue often looks and feels different from the surrounding skin due to being damaged, and scars are formed. At Radiance Medical Spa, our physician-guided scar revision treatments offer transformative solutions to rejuvenate scar tissue and regenerate healthier skin in its place. With lasers and advanced medicine, we can effectively and precisely target scar tissue while preserving the surrounding healthy skin for the best results. Scar revision solutions at Radiance include one or more of our advanced lasers over multiple sessions and could also include injectable medications. As the skin heals from your laser scar removal sessions, the scar will appear softer, smoother, and more evenly toned. Every scar is unique, and that means your treatment will be too. Our scar revision treatment options will be discussed thoroughly at your consultation and customized to your specific scar type for optimal results.

Who is Laser Scar Removal for?

Whether you have a new scar or an old scar that has been around for years, there is no deadline to when you can treat your scar. This means you have the power at any time to take back control of your skin’s health, appearance, and your quality of life. Even if you’ve had acne scars since your teenage years, 30 or 40 years ago, acne scar removal treatments can still be effective now. Laser scar removal can also target trauma scars that have discoloration, including red, purple, dark brown, or bright white scars. We recommend treating scars “earlier rather than later” when it’s easier for fibroblasts to heal the skin, leading to optimal results from your treatment.

Laser Scar Removal can effectively treat the following types of scars:

  • Post-surgical scars
  • Suture scars
  • Cuts and scrapes that did not heal properly
  • Burn scars
  • Post-Moze Treatment Scars
  • Post-Trauma Scars: accidents, falls, animal bites, etc.
  • Post-Injury scars
  • Acne scars
  • Keloid scars
  • Stretch Marks
  • Contracture scars
  • Deep Lines and Wrinkles (Yes, wrinkles are scars too!)

At your consultation we will assess your scar and discuss your goals to build your procedure plan. Each session may look different, but that’s okay! Every scar is different and deserves a personalized approach specific to your scar type for ideal results.

Our approach encompasses a variety of modalities depending on the type of scar and scar tissue. This could include topical creams, injectable medications, and a combination of laser scar removal therapies to accomplish best outcomes. Depending on the type of laser used, we may use a topical or injectable numbing solution to ensure your comfort during treatment.

ProFractional® laser is an ideal option for anyone seeking to reduce the appearance of unwanted moderate to severe scars and large or small scar tissue.

Recommended for: Post-surgical scars and moderate to severe acne scarring.

Recovery: Moderate downtime and recovery time.

HALO® Hybrid Fractional Laser is a fractionized ablative and non-ablative laser.

Recommended for: Superficial (surface layers of the skin)  to moderate scars and light to moderate acne scarring.

Recovery: Mild to moderate recovery time.

NanoLaserPeel®/MicroLaserPeel® is a full-ablative laser, meaning it vaporizes the top layers of the skin down to a specific depth. This may be used for scars that are mild to moderately raised from the surface of the skin. By flattening the scar, the treatment area will appear smoother and more cohesive with the surrounding skin.

Recommended for: Mild-moderately raised scars. Deep lines and wrinkles. Contracture scars.

Recovery: Mild to moderate downtime and recovery time.

BBL® BroadBand Light is an effective laser treatment for scars that are discolored in relation to the surrounding skin. This could include scar coloring that has red, purple, brown, or white tones. By using BroadBand light, we can fade, blend, and improve the color of the scar for a more natural look.

Recommended for: Scars with discoloration

Recovery: Little to no social downtime.

Scar Treatment Considerations:

  • The type of scar, size, and discoloration will determine the type of treatment and lasers used for you to have optimal results.
  • Multiple treatment sessions are usually required, typically between 1- 6 sessions.
  • Any age of scar can be treated.
  • “Social” Downtime varies depending on the type of laser used.
  • Recovery time varies depending on the type of laser used.
  • Noticeable improvements can be seen within 1 week of treatment and continued improvement over the following 6 months.
  • Your results can last for years. That being said, the skin will continue to age naturally. Typically, when you feel the appearance of the scar needs maintenance, you may consider returning for follow-up treatment around 12-18+ months after the initial series to maintain results.
